Tuesday In-Class Exercise

As you know from class, a lot of today is about getting your rough draft written.  You have the "building blocks" exercise to complete with your writing time; in addition, I would like you to post to the blog by 9 pm.  Please respond to the following questions.

1.  Which two pieces are you using for your essay?
2.  Why did you choose these two?

18 comments:

  1. The Purpose of Education and Qualities of Liberally Educated Person.
I chose both of these since they agree that the knowledge learned in a university is deeper than intelligence and instead, create a culturally well rounded person.

    2. These documents seemed very similar to me and both focused on the importance of morals and character as a base for an education rather than just grades.

  8. 1. I will write about "Qualities of the Liberally Educated Person" and "Implications of considering students as consumers".
    2. I chose "Qualities..." because I spent time in class discussing it today when we broke into groups and I like the list format that Cronon uses to express is ideas. I chose "Implications..." because I like the logic of Snare's argument. I think these essays will work well together because one is about how to make educated people and the other is about what an educated person is, and we can see that Snare's model will produce educated people up to Cronon's standards.

    1. I am not positive if I am going to use these two articles but as of now I have chosen to use The Purpose of Education and Qualities of the Liberally Educated Person.
    2. First I chose the MLK speech because it was one of the ones I enjoyed most. I choose the Qualities of the Liberally Educated Person to compare and contrast because I found to have the same general idea as the speech. Both pieces focus on what an educated person is. Also, I really liked how both these pieces have generally the same content but each expresses it with a different style.

  18. I will be doing The Idea of a University and The Difference Between High School and College. I chose these two because they have enough for me to talk about. They talked about things that I think are true, so in a way I think I can analyze them better because of that.
